CONSULTATION

Welcome to the consultation page for the proposed repowering of the wind turbines at Park House Farm, Leicester Lane, Desford, Leicester, LE9 9JJ

A Message from the Farm

Our family has been farming here since 1986 and we are proud to be part of the local community. Farming has become more challenging in the recent years, with rising energy costs and increasing pressures on day-to-day operations. We believe in moving forward with the times. As farming continues to evolve, we want to ensure that the way we manage the farm is sustainable, efficient, and prepared for the future.

Renewable energy has already played an important role in supporting the farm, and by upgrading our turbines we can continue to secure reliable, clean energy for years to come. Our aim is to keep the farm resilient, efficient, and well-placed to meet future challenges, while also contributing to wider environmental goals.

Thanks for taking the time to read about what we’re planning. We care about the community around us and want to keep you informed.

Paul Hilyer, Park House Farm

Why?

Park House Farm is a working family farm with high energy needs. Over time, the technology we’ve relied on has started to fall behind. The turbines we currently use are outdated and no longer efficient. They are costing us more to keep them running, and they aren’t keeping up with the demands of the farm. Replacing them with newer, more efficient models is a practical step. It helps us reduce costs, improve reliability, and make sure the farm can keep running in a sustainable way.

This isn’t about growing bigger. It’s about keeping up with what’s needed so we can carry on doing what we’ve always done, in a way that makes sense for the future.  It’s a straightforward, like-for-like upgrade. The new turbines will be modern and efficient, offering quieter operation, 24/7 performance monitoring, and a 20-year warranty, along with comprehensive support and servicing.

Together, this means fewer breakdowns, greater energy security, and a cleaner, more sustainable future for the farm. This isn’t just about keeping costs down, it’s about doing our part for the environment and ensuring the farm can thrive for future generations.

Working together to make sure the new turbines are designed and planned in a way that is efficient, environmentally responsible, and suitable for the site.

Impact on Nearby Properties

We understand how important it is that this proposal respects those living nearby. Protecting residential amenity has always been one of our top priorities. The new turbines have been carefully positioned to avoid issues like noise or shadow flicker. A detailed, desk-based noise assessment has been carried out to make sure the turbines comply with strict industry standards and, just as importantly, give neighbours peace of mind. We’ve considered these factors from the beginning to make sure the project fits well with the local area and doesn’t affect day-to-day life.

The photomontage has been created to give a realistic impression of how the repowered turbines would look within the landscape.

    FAQs

    Will it be noisy?

No, the wind turbine will not be noisy for residents. Detailed assessments will be undertaken to ensure noise levels remain within strict noise standards.

    What will it look like?

The turbine will be slightly taller than the one already there (15 m taller). We’ve produced the photo below to provide an indication of what it will look like.

    What happens in extreme weather?

The turbine is designed to automatically shut down during very high wind speeds. This is a standard safety feature and ensures it poses no danger to people or property.

    Will construction impact traffic?

The turbine will be transported outside of peak traffic times, with transportation specialists managing the process to avoid disruption. The turbine itself will be built in just two days with other preparatory works taking place over the six weeks beforehand.

    WHAT'S CHANGING?

The new turbines will be modern three-bladed models, broadly similar in appearance to the existing ones, with a modest increase in height and a small shift in position. These adjustments keep the turbines safely away from hedges, overhead lines, and public paths while improving efficiency and reliability. The upgraded models are designed for long-term performance and will integrate well with the surrounding landscape and existing renewable energy developments, making a positive cumulative contribution to local energy generation. The changes are modest, but the benefits are significant - better reliability, more energy, and lower maintenance demands.
