Welcome to the

Overhouse Farm Turbine Repowering

Consultation Hub

CONSULTATION

Welcome to the consultation page for the turbine at Overhouse Farm.

WHAT WE ARE BUILDING?

We will be removing the broken wind turbine and replacing it with a newer model to support the farm.

FAQs

Will it be noisy?

No, the wind turbine will not be noisy for residents. Detailed assessments will be undertaken to ensure noise levels remain within strict noise standards.

What will it look like?

The turbine will be slightly taller than the one already there (10 m taller).

Will it hurt the local wildlife?

As there is already a turbine onsite, no new impacts to wildlife are expected.

A message from the farm

Like many small farms across the UK, we face ongoing challenges with rising costs, changing weather, and the need to manage resources carefully. To help meet these demands, we installed a wind turbine on the farm. Unfortunately, the turbine has been out of action for several years and cannot be brought back into reliable use.

We are now looking to replace it with a modern, more efficient model that comes with a full support package. This will give us a reliable, clean source of energy for the long term — helping the farm stay resilient and continue producing milk in a sustainable way.

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about what we’re planning. We want to be open about the process and make sure neighbours have the chance to ask questions and share any thoughts.

Why?

Overhouse Farm is a family run-dairy farm with beef cows and sheep. Milking, cooling, and everyday operations create a high demand for electricity, making energy a major cost. The original turbine was installed to cut reliance on fossil fuels and support the farm’s long-term sustainability.

However, as the existing turbine is no longer operational, it cannot contribute to the farm’s energy needs, leaving a clear need for a reliable replacement.

WHO'S INVOLVED?

WHAT'S CHANGING?

The new turbine will see a number of changes including a height increase of 10m and an increase from 2 blades to 3.

Impact on Nearby Properties

We understand how important it is that this proposal respects those living nearby. From the outset, protecting residential amenity has been one of our top priorities.

The new turbines have been carefully positioned to avoid issues like noise or shadow flicker. A detailed, desk-based noise assessment has been carried out to make sure the turbines comply with strict industry standards and, just as importantly, give neighbours peace of mind.

We’ve considered these factors from the beginning to make sure the project fits well with the local area and doesn’t affect day-to-day life.
